Description
An ideal low-growing, mound forming, perennial plant for rockeries, troughs, edge of paths, etc. The vivid pink, nectar rich blooms of Silene caroliniana ‘Hot Pink’ appear from May to June and beyond if dead-headed. The flowers are borne at the top of sticky stems (hence the “Catchfly” common name) and are surrounded by narrow lance-shaped green leaves. It is a member of the Caryophyllaceae family so is closely related to carnations and pinks. It thrives on well-drained soils, rocky outcrops, scree gardens, alpine troughs and the front of borders, etc.
