Description
Lythrum salicaria Robin is closely related to a European wildflower which makes it exceptionally valuable for pollinating insects. With its nearly 1m tall spikes of bright deep pink flowers in summer it looks stunning in a cottage garden or border.
The stems are quite woody but we find it’s best to cut them down low in spring which encourages healthy, strong shoots from the roots & base of the plant. The lance shaped green leaves are held in opposite pairs on the stems which terminate in the bright flower spikes.
