Description
This is fantastic Lobelia has mid-green foliage with red/bronze edges and produces spikes of deep red (burgundy) flowers from mid summer through to the first frosts. Cut back spikes once flowering has finished and you will be treated to more flowers all summer. It is a real feature plant in both mixed borders and pots/troughs. It will grow in sunny positions as well as shade or part shade (light woodland conditions).
Although often treated as an annual, Lobelia speciosa Starship Burgundy is hardy and will bulk up over the years. It appreciates a moist but well drained soil with a mulch during winter. This clump forming, deciduous perennial Lobelia will produce more and more flower spikes each year. No part of the plant is edible and it can be an irritant for some people so it is recommended to wear gloves whilst handling.
