Every 2nd year the beautiful village of Gringley on the Hill hosts its Open Gardens And Classic Car show.
Various gardens around the village are opened to the public (typically 6-8 gardens), the Community Centre (inside trade stalls), Church and playing fields which hosts the classic cars and outdoor trade stands. Cars will be displayed on the playing field, where there will be a bar, hot and cold food, toilets and a number of trade stalls (30 in 2022). Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on the playing field. There will be transport around the village to the most remote gardens etc.
We will be bringing our range of Lincolnshire grown hardy garden plants including herbs, alpines, shrubs and herbaceous perennials along with peat free compost etc. Our stall will be on the playing fields where the classic cars are displayed.
We are returning to the fantastic fundraising event for Jerry Green Dog Rescue. It is always a great fun day out with plenty of stalls, activities and a dog show.
We will have our wide range of locally grown (in Lincolnshire, no imports!) herbs, alpines, herbaceous perennials and shrubs.
Grab a bite to eat from one of the catering stalls including woodfired pizza, have a stroll through the selection of traders and enjoy entertainment over at the demo ring. If you are bringing your four legged friend along with you why not take part in the legendary fun dog show (for a small fee). There are lots of rosettes and prizes to be won!
All funds raised go directly towards caring for the dogs in the Jerry Green centres.
We’re pleased to be returning to Ingham for the Summer Fair organised by & benefitting Little Acorns, the local pre-school. This year there will also be a dog show.
We will be bringing some fantastic, locally grown alpines, herbs, shrubs & herbaceous perennials and there will be plenty of other stalls and entertainments on the day.
No matter what time of year it is there’s usually an alpine in flower. Whilst about the nursery this morning I noticed these two beauties waking up from their winter slumber.
Join us at the Normanby Hall Country Fayre where we will have a wide range of competitively priced herbs, alpines and perennials. We should also have our range of top quality Spring Flowering Bulbs for sale as well. August & September are ideal months to plant perennials and bulbs in your garden as they will settle in quickly. Keep them watered during dry spells and they will quickly establish and overwinter ready to produce an exceptional display next year.
The Normanby Hall Country Fayre is an excellent event. Not only do you get to shop from a wide range of stalls and food suppliers you can also explore the hall and grounds as well.

Sturton Plants are proud to announce that we have been invited back to the Normanby Hall Food & Flowers Event. We will be bringing our range of herbs, alpines, herbaceous perennials and shrubs. All our plants are grown in Lincolnshire and are used to the vagaries of the Lincolnshire & Yorkshire climates!
Last years event was very busy with a good selection of plant, craft and food stalls.

We took advantage of the better weather today to lift and divide our Iris chrysographes Black form plants. These are beautiful Iris plants with flowers of such a dark purple they’re very nearly black!
Even with the recent cold weather there were signs of fresh growth buds. We have put the pots into a cold frame to protect them whilst they settle in.
Although we are not currently attending markets there is a lot going on in preparation for spring. From tidying up stock plants in our garden, vehicle maintenance, seed sowing, taking cuttings, lifting and dividing plants, potting up, the list is endless.

Unfortunately Ruskington Farmers Market and the Wednesday Saxilby Farmers Market are not going ahead this year but the Saturday Saxilby Farmers Market will continue on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
I have also been busy with my carpentry skills creating cold-frames to keep the worst of the winter wet off some of our potted plants. Alpines especially are susceptible to wet conditions which can be a problem when pot grown. They will tolerate almost any amount of cold but only if well drained. A cold frame or alpine house is essential if you are on heavy clay as we are…

Plants are available March - early October from markets and events throughout Lincolnshire. Collection from Sturton By Stow, Lincolnshire (LN1) is also available by appointment.
Plant prices are based on a 9cm pot unless stated otherwise. Some plants may be available in larger pots on our stall and will be individually priced.
