Description

Thymus coccineus loves well drained soils in full sun. The evergreen, aromatic foliage forms dense, low growing mats. It is tolerant of occasional crushing making it ideal for growing amongst paving or at the edges of paths where it will release thyme fragrance when stepped on.

For best results it prefers well drained alkaline to neutral soils though it is fairly tolerant of most conditions. It is perfectly suited for planting in Mediterranean gardens, rockeries, kitchen gardens, cottage gardens and planters. The leaves and flowers add a lovely flavour to many dishes dishes.

A hardy plant which should survive normal winter conditions outside, especially with protection from the hardest frosts. If grown in pots it is recommended to place in a sheltered position for the winter.
