Description

A wonderful new variety from Belarus. Unlike the standard red supermarket tomato, Pink Dreams offers a complex, mellow sweetness that is often compared to the famous ‘Brandywine’ heirloom. The fruits are fleshy and multi-locular (lots of seed chambers), meaning you get a meaty texture with very little water runoff—perfect for the ultimate “Tomato Mozerella” salad. The fruits are exceptionally large and can weigh over 500g each.

UK Growing Tips

Because Pink Dreams produces large, heavy fruits, it requires a bit more “parenting” than a cherry tomato to succeed in the British climate.

  • Support is Vital: As a “Vine” (Indeterminate) variety, it will grow as tall as you let it. Use a sturdy stake or a heavy-duty garden string. Once the fruit sets, you may need to support the individual trusses with soft twine to prevent them from snapping under their own weight.

  • Temperature Control: While it performs best in a greenhouse or polytunnel, it can be grown in a sheltered, south-facing spot outdoors in the Southern UK.

  • The “Stop” Point: To ensure the fruit actually ripens, pinch out the growing tip of the plant in early August (usually after 4 or 5 trusses have formed). This forces the plant’s energy into finishing the fruit rather than making more leaves.

Usage & Culinary Notes

  • The Slicer: Its massive diameter makes it the perfect single-slice topping for a burger or bagel.

  • Seasoning: Because it is naturally low in acid, a light sprinkle of sea salt and a dash of balsamic vinegar helps “wake up” the floral notes of the pink flesh.

  • Avoid the Fridge: To preserve that delicate aromatic profile, never store these in the fridge; keep them on a sunny windowsill until you’re ready to eat.
